Innovative nonprofit community mental health center (CMHC) specializing in meeting the unique needs of children and their families needed a top notch CEO to replace the incumbent CEO, who was retiring after 32 years. The successful CEO candidate had just successfully led another CMHC through the transition to national certification as a CCBHC, one of the first to so in the state. The Board unanimously approved the hire of the incoming CEO who won over the leadership team and the community as well.

About the Position:

Having served the organization for 32 years, our client’s current CEO is resigning, providing time for the board to recruit a replacement and potentially overlap with the incoming CEO in order to assist in the transition.

Annually, our client serves over 10,000 children, adolescents and families from over 20 Kansas counties. A Trauma Informed Care (TIC) organization, our client is the only CMHC in the country offering a comprehensive Anxiety Treatment Center for youth and adolescents. Our client attracts top notch PhDs from around the country who are seeking real world experience in their internships and residency programs.

About the Opportunity:

The successful CEO candidate will assume the helm of a vibrant organization with extremely strong finances and operations, and on a trajectory to become even more innovative. Our client is in the final stages of design work for the first youth crisis and recovery center slated to break ground in the state. The organization is on very solid financial footing, and just added substance use disorders to its service line. Led by the COO, the senior leadership team just applied for and received a grant of $5 million over two years  from SAMHSA, and are gearing up to apply to the state for Certified Community Behavioral Healthcare Clinic (CCBHC) certification in 3rd or 4th quarter.  Our client has a solid executive team with several younger leaders and the resignation of four 30+ year employees over the last two years opens up multiple professional development opportunities for aspiring staff.  With revenues of $17M and net assets near $18M, the prospect of joining this high performing organization is a very attractive and compelling opportunity for the right leader.

Qualifications & Experience:

Candidates seeking to apply must have an undergraduate degree (or equivalent experience), preferably a Masters degree. Seeking five to twenty years financial and people management experience, with a deep understanding of community mental health center operations.  Candidates who meet all requirements and have prior CXO experience in a CMHC or experience in a Certified Community Behavioral Healthcare Clinic (CBHC) will receive preference.
